Sketch-Based Screening for Cognitive Impairment Detection: A Human Centered Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
Early detection of cognitive impairment can prevent or delay the progress of cognitive dysfunction. In the field of neurology, the Clock Drawing Test (CDT) is one of the most popular instruments for detecting cognitive impairment in the elderly. In this paper, we present our preliminary study in developing the ClockReader System, a computerized sketch-based screening tool, based on the human centered design approach. The ultimate goal of the ClockReader Project is to develop an automated recording and analysis of the Clock Drawing Test. We developed two different versions of the ClockReader system. One version is written in C# running on Tablet PC and the other version is MATLAB using image processing to recognize characters. In order to understand the feasibility of the computerized CDT, we are conducting a usability comparison study of computerized CDT running on Tablet PC vs. Pen-andPaper based CDT.

The value of screening for cognitive impairment, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease, has been debated for decades. Recent research on causes of and treatments for cognitive impairment has converged to challenge previous thinking about screening for cognitive impairment. Consequently, changes have occurred in health care policies and priorities, including the establishment of the annual ...

Human facial generation of example image is used as a requirement for biometric applications for the purpose of identifying individuals. In this paper, face generation consists of three main steps. In the first step, detection of significant lines and edges of the example image are carried out using nonlinear grayscale morphology. Then, hair areas are identified from the face of sample. The fin...

Introduction: Newborn hearing screening leads to the early detection of hearing impairment. The aim of screening is to decrease or remove the effect of hearing impairment on development of speech and language by timely diagnosis and effective treatment. A number of risk factors lead to delayed start of decreased hearing ability including: 1. Congenital infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) viru...

BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment often goes undetected in older people in hospital. Efficient screening tools are required to improve detection. To determine diagnostic properties of two separate informant-based single screening questions for cognitive impairment (dementia and delirium) in hospitalised older people. METHODS Patients over 65 years non-electively admitted to medical or geriatric...

Introduction: Early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD), as a neurodegenerative disease and the most common cause of dementia in the elderly people, using gait analysis have been particularly noted by researcher in recent years. Because this novel method is non-invasive, less cost, and feasible in non-clinical and laboratory environments. Therefore, in this Meta-Analysis review article, detec...
